Your Child's First Dental Visit in Santa Rosa

The first dental visit sets the foundation for a lifetime of healthy smiles. The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends scheduling by age 1 or within six months of the first tooth appearing.

Early visits help prevent cavities, catch concerns early, and most importantly—build your child’s comfort with dental care. A positive first experience shapes how they feel about the dentist for years to come.

At Toothmate, we make that first visit gentle, educational, and even fun.

Frequently Asked Question

Here are answers to common questions Santa Rosa parents have about their child’s first dental visit.

When should my child first see a dentist?

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends scheduling your child’s first visit by age 1 or within six months of their first tooth appearing. Early visits prevent problems and help your child feel comfortable with dental care from the start.

What if my child cries or is scared?

That’s completely normal, and we’re ready for it. Our team specializes in helping anxious little ones feel safe. We use gentle techniques, take things at your child’s pace, and never force anything. Many children who arrive nervous leave smiling.

Do baby teeth really need checkups?

Absolutely. Baby teeth hold space for permanent teeth, help with speech development, and enable proper chewing. Cavities in baby teeth can cause pain, infections, and affect permanent teeth developing underneath. Regular pediatric dental checkups protect your child’s overall health.
